Answers to Your Most Common Questions

Got some questions before starting out with Tailaire?

Are your services insured, and how do you ensure the safety of my pet and home?

Our services are fully insured and bonded through Profur to provide you with peace of mind. Additionally, all our staff members undergo thorough criminal record checks as part of our commitment to maintaining a secure and trustworthy environment for both you and your furry family members.

What is your cancellation policy?

We know plans can change, and flexibility is important. If we need to cancel a service, there is no charge. However, if you cancel less than 48 hours before the appointment, we will need to charge the full amount (unless we can fill the spot). This policy helps us ensure we can support both our clients and staff. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain the high care standards we aim for.

Are your staff certified?

Absolutely! The well-being of your pets is our top priority. All our staff members are certified in pet first aid and fear-free practices. If they’re new, then it’s only a matter of time before they join the rest of us. For more details on our staff’s special achievements and certifications, feel free to visit our “About Us” page.

How are payments handled for your services?

Payments are taken prior to booking services. We use Clicks! for all booking/payments.

What does "force-free" mean in your training approach?

Our force-free training focuses on the well-being of pets, ensuring they are treated without fear, pain, or excessive stress. We handle each dog with respect, using minimal restraint to keep the dog, staff, and others safe. This approach, supported by our signed pledge, helps create a positive, caring environment where pets can learn and thrive.

What do clients need to provide for walks or training sessions?

To ensure the best experience for your furry friend during walks or training sessions, we kindly ask that clients provide the following essentials:

  • Gear: A properly fitted harness approved by our team. Alternatives such as head halters may be discussed with conditioning if required, and will be judged on a case by case basis.
  • Placement of Equipment: All needed equipment to be in its “place” that’s accessible.
  • Cleanliness: A towel and/or anything else we may require to clean/dry your dog.
  • Proper Outerwear: Please provide appropriate outerwear suitable for the weather conditions to keep them comfortable and safe (conditions apply).
  • Treats: Bring your dog’s favorite treats to reinforce positive behavior and encourage engagement during training sessions or walks.
  • Water and Bowl (if required): Hydration is key, especially during outdoor activities. If your dog has specific water preferences or requires a bowl, please provide these to keep them refreshed throughout.

By having these items ready, you help ensure that your pet has a positive and enjoyable experience during their time with us. If you have any specific questions about additional requirements, feel free to reach out, and we’ll be happy to assist!

What is your policy regarding walks in extreme weather conditions?

In extreme weather conditions we will either:

  • shorten the walk if we deem it unsafe to continue
  • do a let-out/hangout instead including a potty break, enrichment/training activities (with toys/treats provided by you,) and, of course, lots of love (in an acceptable manner).

What are your rates for Holidays?

Our services are charged at 1.5 times the regular rate on statutory holidays. If you have specific scheduling inquiries, feel free to reach out.

Do you offer off-leash walks?

Absolutely! While we love providing off-leash walks for our furry friends, it’s important to note that we can only conduct off-leash walks in designated off-leash areas. If you’d like us to take your dog to the dog park, we do charge an additional fee for kilometers to cover the ride to and from the park. This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for your pet in an appropriate environment.

What animals do you provide service for?

We take pride in offering comprehensive care for all small companion animals. From furry friends, reptiles, to feathered companions, our team is committed to their well-being. To ensure the best care possible, we rely on specific directions from owners regarding the individual needs of each pet.

What happens if my dog is injured while under your care?

Your pet’s safety is our top priority. If your pet is injured while in our care, we will take them to the vet for immediate medical attention. The amount stated in your contract will be used, but your verbal instructions will override any agreement form. Vet bill responsibility will be assessed case by case. We value open communication and are happy to address any concerns to ensure your peace of mind. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Can you walk multiple dogs together, and are there any discounts available?

Yes, we offer walks for multiple dogs at an additional cost of $5 – $10 per extra dog, with a maximum of four dogs at a time. However, the behavior of each dog will determine how many can walk together safely. If needed, we may suggest walking them separately to address their specific needs. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about your pets walking together.

Where can I find references or reviews for your services?

What happens if my dog won't allow you to clip their nails during a scheduled service?

We understand that nail clipping can be challenging for some dogs. If your dog struggles during the service, we’ll offer helpful tips for you to try at home. We also provide training sessions to address nail-related anxieties for an additional fee. Please note that the full service charge applies once our team arrives, regardless of whether the nail clipping is completed. We aim to ensure your pet’s well-being and comfort, so feel free to reach out with any concerns or questions.

How do you handle encounters with off-leash dogs during walks, and what safety measures do you have in place?

To handle encounters with off-leash dogs, we carry tools like pet correctors, citronella spray, and pepper spray to deter potential threats. While we aim to prevent such situations, these tools allow us to respond quickly and responsibly to ensure your pet’s safety. We’re committed to providing a secure environment during every walk. If you have any concerns about our safety measures, feel free to reach out. Your pet’s well-being is our top priority.
